Vol. 233 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Depasturage of Sheep on Curragh.

19.

asked the Minister for Defence if he can now indicate what better provision will be made for the control of the depasturage of sheep on the Curragh.

This matter is still under consideration in consultation with the Attorney General. I shall communicate with the Deputy as soon as a decision has been taken.

Is the Minister aware that a large number of people are unable to use their sheep claims on the Curragh because of delay in relation to this, but at the same time they are having to pay rates on those claims? How long does the Minister propose to allow the matter to remain in its present most unsatisfactory state, which the Minister will agree arises because of a defect in regulations?

I am aware the position is as stated by the Deputy and I should be just as glad as the Deputy if the matter were brought to a conclusion.

Can the Minister not do anything to change it?

I am in the hands of the legal people.

The Minister could make them give it a little priority if he tried.
