Vol. 233 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Contributory Widows' Pensions.

30.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will review non-contributory widows' pensions with a view to bringing them up to present-day standards.

I do not know what the Deputy means by present-day standards with particular reference to the scheme for widows' (non-contributory) pensions. This scheme and all the other pension schemes for which I am responsible are constantly under review and any improvements in rates or conditions found to be justified are made whenever feasible. In this connection, it may be noted that the rates of widows' (non-contributory) pensions have been increased each year since 1959.
