Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estate.

36.

asked the Minister for Lands how much of the Loughman Estate S.23870 at Ballyroe, Athy, County Kildare, has been allotted; how much remains unallotted; and if he will state in respect of each allotment (a) whether each allottee had any land already and, if so, how much; (b) the area of each allotment now made; (c) the age of each allottee; (d) whether each allottee had any other occupation and, if so, what; and (e) the marital state and number in family of each allottee.

Of a total of some 152 acres acquired by the Land Commission on this estate, 90 acres were allotted recently—leaving a residue of 62 acres for disposal later. The other information requested is contained in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report. As I have often mentioned before there is, of course, no secrecy regarding the identity of allottees, but I feel very strongly that there should be the least possible invasion of the affairs of private individuals even when they are the recipients of allotments of land. For this reason I reluctantly give the particulars sought but only to such extent as will not disclose personal or family information obtained by the Land Commission on a confidential basis from the persons concerned.

Following is the statement:

Approximate Area of Allotment

Approximate Area of Existing Lands

Any other Occupation of Allottee

NOTE: A feature of this Estate is its rather scattered layout and, in addition, a railway line divides it.

Is the Minister asserting that this House has not a right to the information sought by Deputy Sweetman? Is that the Minister's assertion?

The information has been given in so far as it will not disclose personal or family information obtained by the Land Commission on a confidential basis.

Can the Minister say if one farm has been given to someone who had already got an allotment and because of the fact that the foundation of the new house had collapsed, he asked for a transfer and threatened legal action if he did not get it? Can the Minister say if that is correct?

I have no information to that effect.

Would the Minister answer that question if I put it down next week?

Put down the question and I am sure it will be answered.
