Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Income Tax Reliefs.

44.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that while a parent with a child attending university gets income tax relief, a child who works during the day and attends university at night on the money he earns gets no tax relief; and, if so, if he will make provision in the Budget to provide this relief.

Presumably the Deputy has in mind the giving of relief from income tax in respect of fees and other expenses incurred by students attending evening lectures at a university. As proposals regarding income tax allowances are primarily budgetary matters to be taken into account together with other budgetary considerations at the appropriate time it will be appreciated that I cannot at this stage make any statement.
