Vol. 233 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Land Allotment.

59.

asked the Minister for Lands if a person (name supplied) who is an applicant for land on the Farrell estate, Kells, County Meath, will receive any portion of this land.

The selection of allottees is a matter that is exclusively reserved to the Commissioners. In the present instance I am informed that the applicant is a landless man who lives in a rented house over a mile from the lands being divided. In the circumstances, it would be less than candid were the Land Commission to hold out hope for the success of the application.

Is the Minister aware that this man has a considerable portion of the estate taken for grazing for a number of years and that being so, would he not consider that the man should be accommodated?

I am not so aware but I am sure the Land Commission are so aware. I can only say that on both grounds, on the ground of distance and because of the fact that he is a landless man, his chances are not very bright.
