Vol. 233 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Road.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the very dangerous condition of Rochestown Avenue, Dublin and of the serious inconvenience and loss to residents along this avenue by virtue of the developer and the local authority not reaching a financial agreement in relation to a section of the avenue; and if he will now take steps to bring matters to an urgent conclusion.

Responsibility for the formulation and execution of proposals for the improvement of the section of road referred to rests with Dublin County Council, who are the responsible road authority. I am advised by the council that the roadway in question is proposed for improvement but that they have not yet been successful in acquiring the land needed for the improvement and that negotiations are still proceeding. It is a matter for Dublin County Council to decide whether or not to invoke their powers for the compulsory acquisition of land in this case. In view of my appellate functions in relation to compulsory land acquisition proposals, I could not intervene in the manner suggested by the Deputy.
