Vol. 233 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parking Fines.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice the total amount of fines collected since the introduction of on-the-spot parking fines; and the number of gardaí who are assigned to this task in Dublin.

The total amount received in my Department from 1st April, 1963, when the scheme commenced, to 31st March, 1968, was £234,636. This does not include money paid into Garda stations last month and not yet remitted to the Department.

Every sergeant and garda on duty in uniform in Dublin carries "fine-on-the-spot" notices. Some gardaí, however, are allocated as their primary task the enforcement of the traffic regulations, including the operation of the fine-on-the-spot scheme. The daily average of the gardaí on this duty in Dublin since the scheme was introduced has been 34.

Would the Minister say, of the £200,000 odd, what proportion has been collected in Molesworth Street where there is indiscriminate parking?

That is a separate question.

I have not that information.

I did not expect the Minister to have it. I only tried to stress the matter of indiscriminate parking in Molesworth Street.

When six gardaí are put on the gate at Leinster House, could they not ensure that steps will be taken to enable Deputies to reach this House——

That is a separate question. Question No. 34.
