Vol. 234 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Car Body Crushing Machinery.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is taking steps to get a machine working in this country for the disintegration of car bodies.

The answer is "No".

Does the Minister not think that it would be worthwhile to use his influence with the local authorities to obtain a joint effort in regard to this problem of car bodies being left as junk all over the countryside and despoiling it? It does not appear to be an economic proposition for one local authority to do this on its own and could the Minister suggest a joint effort?

It certainly would be a good idea if it were done but I do not think that it is a matter in which the Department of Local Government can be expected——

You already have a machine for the disintegration of public bodies.

How much money would be involved in purchasing such a machine?

I do not know.

Surely the Minister could be co-operative for a change?

How would I know what it would cost?

Has the Minister no civility in him at all?

This is a very big local government problem and the Minister should take an interest in it.
