Vol. 234 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Curricula and Teaching Methods.

41.

andMr. Gilhawley asked the Minister for Education what encouragement, financial and otherwise, his Department gives or intends to give to teachers or teachers' organisations engaged in research of satisfactory standards on curriculum and teaching methods.

My Department always welcomes any initiative shown by teachers or teachers' organisations in matters relating to research on educational matters, and in the present financial year is in a position to give financial assistance to any worthwhile project offered by a teachers' organisation.

Does the Minister exclude from that general benediction study and research in the Montessori system of teaching?

I should not like to commit my colleague finally on this, but my impression is that that would be excluded.

Goodness only knows why.
