Vol. 234 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford School.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if he has sanctioned the erection of a school at Forgney, Ballymahon, County Longford; and, if so, in what state of repair the present school is.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of the provision of a new pre-fabricated school at Forgney, County Longford, and the arrangements for the erection of the school are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works.

The existing Forgney national school was repaired in 1963 and in 1966 in order to render it serviceable pending replacement.

Will the Minister take steps to hasten the erection of this pre-fab in view of the state of repair of the existing building and would he indicate the date on which repair to this school was proposed in the first instance?

I have no indication as to when it was originally proposed to do this work, only that one section of it was done in 1963 and another section in 1966, but I can tell the Deputy that as far as proceeding with the erection of the pre-fabricated school is concerned, there are some steps which must be taken by the manager before further progress can be made.

Precisely.

You are attacking the priests again.
