Vol. 235 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Road Improvement.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any proposals are in hand for the improvement of Cambridge Road to Pigeon House Road, Ringsend, Dublin; and, if so, when they are likely to be implemented.

There are no proposals in the matter before me and so far as I am aware the corporation, who are the appropriate road authority, have no proposals at present for the improvement of this road.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any proposals are on hand for the improvement of the Stillorgan Road-Bray Road, Dublin, from Donnybrook eastwards; and, if so, when an improvement scheme is likely to be undertaken.

Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council have prepared such proposals. The proposals prepared by the Corporation deal with the section from Donnybrook Church to Nutley Park while the County Council have prepared proposals for the section from Nutley Park to Loughlinstown. It is not possible at this stage to indicate when work is likely to commence; both sets of proposals involve land acquisition and this has to be settled first.

Would it be correct to assume it will be ten to 15 years before anything substantial is done to improve that road?

I would not think so.

I have a vested interest in it because I travel on it. Would the Minister say approximately when work may commence?

Land acquisition has to be settled first. I do not know how long that will take.

Will it be five years?

I do not think it should be.

Is the Minister not aware that Dublin Corporation find it almost impossible to acquire land because of the high cost of land?

I am aware it would have been done long ago only for the change of Government in 1948.

(Interruptions.)

Order. Question No. 47.
