Vol. 235 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Marketing Board.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether, in view of the serious difficulties which have arisen in the milk and dairy products industry and the likelihood of these difficulties becoming more acute, he will now consider the desirability of establishing a national milk marketing board which would have responsibility for the marketing and processing of all milk products in this country; if not, whether he will give his reasons; and whether he proposes to make any changes in the present arrangements for processing and marketing milk and milk products.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to his previous questions on this subject on 1st May, and 15th February last. Current problems in the dairying industry here arise from difficult conditions in export markets and there is already a national body which is responsible for the marketing of Irish dairy products in those markets.
