Vol. 235 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Dwellings.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government why he has not sanctioned a tender submitted on 3rd April, 1968, by Donegal County Council to appoint a contractor for the erection of 12 houses at St. Johnston.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government why he has not sanctioned a tender submitted by Donegal County Council on 22nd March, 1968, for the erection of ten cottages at Newtowncunningham; and if in view of the grave housing need in the area he will sanction this application without delay.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government why he has not sanctioned a tender submitted by Donegal County Council on 22nd March, 1968, for the erection of eight cottages at Carrigart, County Donegal; and if he will sanction this application in view of the general demand and the great need for housing.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 25, 27 and 28 together.

Tender proposals have already been approved by me for all of these schemes.

Why is it necessary for me in the middle of June to ask the Minister why he has not sanctioned tenders for the erection of 12 houses submitted on 3rd April last?

I have sanctioned them. Your constituency must be too big for you.

No, it is not.

The Cabinet is getting too big for you.

Why is it you were chased down in Kinnycally three weeks ago where the Minister for Agriculture is not welcome any more?

(Interruptions.)

Why is he not answering you?

I just heard the name of the place I am always welcome in.

Not as welcome as you were.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in the erection of county council cottages in Manorcunningham, County Donegal.

On 27th February, 1967, my Department requested Donegal County Council to carry out an investigation of possible local sources which might provide a temporary water supply to the proposed new cottages and to the existing cottage scheme in Manorcunningham. On 27th of last month the council informed my Department that there was no economical method of providing such services and requested my approval to build six potentially serviceable cottages on the site. This proposal is being examined at present and it is hoped to give a decision on it shortly.

Will the Minister for Agriculture have that information at the next cumann meeting?

He will.

I hope you will get a better reception than he got at St. Johnston.

Will Deputy Harte cease interrupting?

I am not interrupting.
