Vol. 235 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School Extension.

31.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that despite the provision of a prefab extension to the national school at Glounthaune, County Cork, the school is again gravely overcrowded owing to increased population in the district; and if he will take immediate steps to provide a further classroom in the school.

I am aware that further additional accommodation is required at Glounthaune national school and my Department has asked the Commissioners of Public Works for a report as to how it might suitably be provided. Because the site is restricted in area, it would not be feasible to erect a further prefabricated classroom, but the extension of a small room in the permanent school building may provide a solution. I am also considering the alternative solution of erecting a new prefabricated school on a new site.
