Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tolka River Pollution.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that severe pollution has taken place in the Tolka river, Dublin, in the past week, leading to widespread destruction of plant and fish life; if there have been any consultations with the Inland Fisheries Trust on the matter; and what action he intends to take to deal with this pollution.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will request Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council to take immediate steps to combat pollution of the Tolka river as fishing there is rapidly becoming non-existent.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 17 and 18 together.

The matter referred to in these questions is primarily one for the sanitary authorities concerned, Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council. I have, however, made inquiries of both these authorities and I am informed that they are at present investigating the position but their investigations have not yet been completed.
