Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Pay Rates of County Council Workers.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the rates of pay at 1st April of this year for the following type of worker employed by each county council: (a) carter, (b) lorry driver, (c) roller driver, and (d) excavator or traxcavator driver.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

(i) In some counties carters who use ponies and carts or donkeys and carts are paid lower rates than those shown in the statement.

(ii) Range of remuneration depends on class of driver or weight of vehicle.

(iii) Increase of £1 per week with effect from 1st April, 1968, offered by local authority.

(iv) Higher rate applicable to excavator driver; lower rate applicable to trackshovel driver.

(v) A two-year scale, commencing at £10 17s. 6d. and rising by six-monthly increments to £12 18s. 3d. operates during training period.

(vi) Higher rate applicable to excavator driver; lower rate applicable to traxcavator driver.
