Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Doctors.

79.

asked the Minister for Health if agreement has been reached between his Department and the medical profession on the question of payment to doctors under the new health services; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

80.

asked the Minister for Health the result of his negotiations with medical professional organisations regarding the method of remuneration of doctors for their services in any amended public health service, which he stated on 28th May last he would announce as soon as possible.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 79 and 80 together.

This matter is still the subject of discussion with representatives of the medical profession and I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Can the Minister expect to make a statement on it in the near future? Furthermore, is the introduction of the legislation dependent on the result of these negotiations with the doctors?

No, it is not.

May I take it that the negotiations have not broken down?

No, far from it.
