Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim Migration Applicants.

105.

asked the Minister for Lands how many people in County Leitrim have applied for migration; and how many applications have been received by the Land Commission for extension to their holdings.

It is not the practice to keep a comprehensive numerical record of applications for land; indeed, such a record might not, of itself, accurately reflect the number of really qualified claimants inasmuch as all eligible persons —irrespective of whether they have lodged a formal application or not— are automatically considered by the Land Commission for allotments.

Perhaps it might meet the Deputy's requirements to know that some 207 applications for migration were received from landowners in County Leitrim during the past five complete financial years; while in the same period 234 uneconomic holdings in the county were enlarged by the allotment of 2,030 acres; 73 fragmented holdings were rearranged; 12 families were migrated from and 2 migrants were resettled within the county.
