Vol. 236 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Processing Plants.

38.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps have been taken by his Department to expand the capacity of the milk processing plants to cater for the 1969 milk output.

Since the Deputy's previous question on this subject on 15th February last, new factories have been opened for the manufacture of milk powder at Ballyraggett, County Kilkenny, and for the manufacture of milk powder and cheese at Ballineen, County Cork. A cheese factory is under construction at Newcastlewest, County Limerick, and further milk processing projects are under consideration for Counties Cavan, Clare, Kerry and Kilkenny. I have no reason to expect that the total capacity for handling milk in 1969 will be inadequate.

Could the Minister say if there are any plans for setting up processing factories outside the country?

All I can tell you is, if you have information on the rumours that I have been hearing, I will be glad to have facts rather than rumours. I know nothing about them.

It is because I have been hearing rumours that I am asking the Minister.

I am telling you now, if you have friends who can supply you with this information, I have not.

Who is asking whom?

I am asking the Deputy.

Deputy Clinton was looking for the information from the Minister. The Minister was asking Deputy Clinton.

He is floating a rumour and I am asking him for the basis.

He did not float the referendum.
