Vol. 236 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reorganisation of Creamery Industry.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement outlining his views on the Sprague report; and if he will indicate his plans for the reorganisation of the creamery industry.

The recommendations in the report are at present under examination in my Department and have also been under consideration by the National Agricultural Council. My views on the reorganisation of the creamery and milk processing industry will be announced when the examination has concluded.

I might add that reorganisation is, of course, progressing in certain areas.

I should like to ask the Minister if he is aware that the proposed reorganisation is causing serious concern in creamery areas? Could he be more specific and say how soon, in fact, an announcement may be expected indicating new plans and new proposals? I take it the previous plans outlined by the IAOS have been scrapped?

What is wrong is that there is lack of information about all the plans there have been, how they came and where they came from and it would be as well if the Deputy, perhaps, on another occasion, very soon, should ask what these plans were, when they were prepared, who circulated them, whose plans they are and what became of them.

And why the Deputies were not supplied with the reports so that they could look at them.

We will give you an answer. There is an answer to that further down in the questions.
