Vol. 237 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in implementing the group water scheme for the Ballymacragh area, Castlebar, County Mayo.

There has been no undue delay in implementing this scheme. State grants for the eligible houses have been provisionally allocated. The Department's inspector has been instructed to contact the group with a view to starting the work.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will provide sufficient funds to enable the Donegal County Council to proceed without further delay with a piped water supply to serve people in great need in the Inishowen area as detailed in the east and west Inishowen regional water supply scheme.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard these schemes as having a high priority on their water and sewerage programme.

43.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the existence of plans to provide a piped water supply for the areas of Rockbrook, Edmondstown, Woodtown and Marlay Grange, County Dublin; and when work will begin on this urgently-needed scheme.

A proposal to provide a group water supply for 15 houses in the Rockbrook and Edmondstown areas is being investigated. As the scheme is at present at the design stage, it is not possible to say when work will commence. No proposals have been received in my Department for the Woodtown and Marlay Grange areas.

The Minister will expedite them when they do arrive, I hope, as it looks like being his new area of operation?

It is at present my area of operation. I do not propose to abandon it.

The Minister is fleeing the rest of the area.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if plans for a sewerage scheme at Ballylinan, County Laois, have been in his Department for the past 18 months; why he has not yet given sanction for this scheme; and if he will now convey his approval to Laois County Council without further delay.

The contract documents for the scheme referred to by the Deputy are at present under consideration in my Department. Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services schemes of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I am not at present in a position to say when a decision on the scheme is likely to issue.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now sanction the preliminary report for Carrick sewerage schemes, submitted to him by Donegal County Council on 7th February, 1966.

On the latest information available to me this scheme is not regarded as having a high priority in the Council's water and sewerage programme.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to approve the proposals submitted by the Killarney Urban Council for an improved sewage disposal unit; and if he is aware of the urgency of the development and the desirability of having the work put in hand at an early date.

Revised preliminary proposals for new sewerage disposal works for Killarney were submitted to my Department on the 3rd ultimo, and are at present under examination.
