Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estates.

189.

asked the Minister for Lands the position regarding the John Quinn Estate, Gortnalee, Dunmore, County Galway; and whether these lands will be acquired.

190.

asked the Minister for Lands the position regarding the Michael Brennan estate, Lisheenheiltha, Boyounagh, Castlerea, County Galway, which has recently been offered for sale.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 189 and 190 together.

There are no proceedings for the acquisition of either of these properties. In the Quinn estate—11 acres—certain inquiries are being carried out at present.

Arrangements are in train to have an inspection of the Brennan estate— 15 acres—made and the requisite notice under the Land Act, 1965, was served on the owner last week.

191.

asked the Minister for Lands the position regarding the Gibbons estate, Leitra, Glenavaddy, County Galway, and the Darmody estate, Middletown, Boyounagh, Castlerea, County Galway, which are already in the hands of the Land Commission.

The holding of Thomas Gibbons, containing 17 acres, was surrendered to the Land Commission last April in exchange for a new holding in County Meath. Possession of the 40 acre Dermody holding has not yet passed to the Land Commission but agreement on price has just recently been reached. Work on the formulation of resale proposals for both properties will be put in hands as soon as possible.

192.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission will divide the Clancy Estate, Currandoo, Monerea, County Galway, which they have already acquired.

This 230 acre estate did not come into the possession of the Land Commission until last July. Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground it is not possible to indicate at present when a scheme of division can be planned.
