Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Accidents.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of fatal accidents involving the use of farm tractors during the past year; and whether he intends to introduce legislation to provide for safety devices on tractors.

Figures as to the total number of fatal accidents involving the use of farm tractors are not available. A special check made by the Gardaí for 1967 shows that 14 persons were killed in that year as a result of tractors overturning. Regulations providing for the compulsory fitting of safety frames on tractors used in a public place are at present in course of preparation in my Department.

People are being killed all the time.

The Minister was busy with the Electoral Amendment Bill.
