6.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give details of (a) the share capital, (b) the loan capital, (c) the profit or loss, (d) the total wages paid, (e) the number of employees and (f) the amount and the value of exports for each of the semi-State companies for which his Department is responsible, for each of the years 1951, 1958 and 1961 to 1968 inclusive.

Radio Telefís Éireann is the only State-sponsored body for which I have responsibility. As the information required by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

NOTES: (1) The Broadcasting Authority was established on 1st June, 1960.

(2) The figures shown are for the years ended 31st March except in the case of 1961, when the accounts covered the 10 months period 1st June, 1960 to 31st March, 1961.

(3) The figures for wages exclude artistes' fees and remuneration of members of the Authority.

(4) Occasionally the Authority sends recorded programmes to other broadcasting organisations abroad either on an exchange basis as free Eurovision offers or on a fee basis. Prior to 1966 only a few programmes were placed abroad. In 1966 three programmes, including an 8-part series, were placed in 13 territories (fees to RTE £16,000), in 1967 fifteen programmes were placed in 27 territories (fees £8,600) and in 1968 fourteen programmes were placed in 31 territories (fees £3,500).
