Vol. 238 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Traffic Regulations.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Cork Corporation were not informed of the terms of the new road traffic regulations setting out new speed limit areas within the corporation jurisdiction until 3rd January 1969 although the regulations came into force on 1st January, 1969; and that, as a result of this delay, it was not possible for the corporation to erect speed limit signs for some time after the coming into force of the regulations; and if he will state the reason for the delay in informing the corporation of the regulations.

The regulations were made on 31st December, 1968, and Cork Corporation were immediately notified of this. They were aware of the proposed date and had been advised to order the necessary posts and signs. There is nothing unusual in the fact that the date of making such regulations does not correspond with the dates of erection of signs, although it is more usual that the signs are first erected over a period during which no regulations are in force.
