Vol. 238 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Tourism Promotion.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total expenditure from all sources on Irish tourist promotion, including advertising both in the country and abroad for the latest available year.

The organisation mainly responsible for undertaking tourist promotional activities is Bord Fáilte Éireann and expenditure on these activities by the Board in 1967-68 amounted to £1.4m. This was supplemented by the Regional Tourism Organisations who spent an estimated £12,000 on promotional activities.

In addition a large number of other organisations including transport undertakings, hoteliers, car-hire firms, local tourist interests, festival committees, angling clubs, etc., engage in tourist promotion and advertising Information on the total promotional expenditure by these various bodies is not available in my Department.
