Vol. 238 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workers: Notice on Discharge.

38.

asked the Minister for Labour whether any progress has been made with the proposals for legislation to give workers a statutory entitlement to minimum periods of notice on discharge, which he referred to when introducing his Department's Estimate last year.

I have sought the views of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Federated Union of Employers on proposals for legislation for this purpose and these consultations are proceeding.

Workers with four years service or more let go on account of redundancy are entitled to at least two weeks notice under the Redundancy Payments Act, 1967.
