Vol. 238 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Limerick Garda Stations.

43.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is his intention to close some Garda stations in East Limerick and to reduce the personnel of others; if so, if he will give details; and if he will consider leaving married Gardaí in their present areas to avoid upset and inconvenience arising from transfer.

I would refer the Deputy to my detailed replies to recent Parliamentary Questions on the subject of closing of Garda stations.

I have accepted the Commissioner's recommendation that some Garda stations in the country be closed and some reduced so that the most efficient and economical use be made of the manpower available. Knocklong is to be closed and Doon and Murroe stations are to be reduced.

The Commissioner has assured me every effort will be made to avoid hardship arising from the transfer of married members of the Force.
