Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the long delay in carrying out the group water scheme in Bally-williams-Ballyboy, Kilcormac, County Offaly which has been under consideration for three years; and if he will approve the plans and sanction the commencement of work in view of the urgency of this proposal.

There has been no unnecessary delay in this case. The original proposal could not proceed because of the failure of the intended source of supply. A redesigned scheme, received in my Department last month, would be beyond the financial resources of the group. The possibility of undertaking a smaller scheme to serve the village of Ballyboy and the Ballywilliam area is now being investigated.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in his Department in giving sanction for the group water scheme for Derryguile, Mountmellick, County Laois; and if work may now be commenced.

The cost of this scheme would be excessive unless a supply could be obtained from the public main. The technical problems involved in providing the group with a supply are being investigated with Laois County Council.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position with regard to the implementation of a group water scheme to meet the needs of the people of Powerstown, Clonmel, County Tipperary; and what assistance his Department are making available for this purpose.

My Department are in communication with Tipperary (SR) County Council regarding the cost of increased pipe sizes requested by them for part of this scheme. Pending the receipt of quotations for certain elements of the scheme, which the group are currently awaiting, the amounts of the grants which will be made available cannot be determined.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps have been taken to provide piped water to meet the needs of the residents at Kilmanahan, Clonmel in Waterford County Council area.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a question on 28th November last, I have fully approved the county council's proposals for a water supply scheme for Kilmanahan.

Can the Minister say there is no delay at his end, in his Department?

A loan to finance this scheme was approved as long ago as 18th December, 1968.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made towards the provision of piped water to meet the needs of the people at Knocklucas, Clonmel in Waterford County Council area.

The scheme has been approved and a certificate of approval, allocating State grants, was issued last month.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of all plans for piped water supply schemes and group water schemes with his Department from Tipperary South Riding County Council.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

2. No proposal from the County Council relating to a group water supply scheme is before my Department.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the proposals before his Department from the Waterford County Council for sanction to carry out water and sewerage schemes; the dates they were received by his Department; and when the Council may expect permission to go ahead with each proposal.

Two such proposals are before my Department. They are an extension to the watermain at Newtown, Tramore, proposals for which were submitted on 12th December, 1968, and Aglish sewerage scheme, contract documents for which were submitted on 19th June, 1967. The schemes are under consideration but I cannot indicate at present when a decision thereon will issue.
