Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Fishing Nets.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the reason for the recent public inquiry into the use of nets for fishing in sea waters; and whether there has been any result from such inquiry.

An application had been made to me for the introduction of regulations governing fishing for bass, including prohibition of netting and the introduction of a minimum size limit. To enable me to consider the application fully I decided to have public inquiries at four centres around the coast. These inquiries were held last month and I am awaiting the report of the officer whom I appointed to conduct them.

The Minister has no idea when the report might be received?

I should say about the end of next month.
