Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Unemployment Assistance.

48.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount of unemployment assistance paid in the areas of (a) East Galway and (b) West Galway since November, 1968 to date.

Particulars of social welfare payments are not maintained on a constituency or a county basis.

During the period from 30th October, 1968, to 11th February, 1969, the latest date for which figures are available, the amounts of unemployment assistance paid through the local offices of the Department of Labour in East Galway and West Galway, or listed for payment at post offices situated in these areas, were £50,183 and £125,175 respectively.

Some of these payments may have been made to persons residing outside the county; conversely some payments not included above may have been made to residents in the county through local offices and post offices in adjoining counties.

Would the Minister repeat the actual figures, please?

£50,183 and £125,175 respectively. The figures do not include benefit. That is assistance.
