Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Promotion of Dairy Products.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps are being taken to advertise and promote the sale of milk, butter and cheese on the home market.

The National Dairy Council, which has been assigned the task of promoting sales of dairy products on the home market, is at present carrying on an intensive press, radio and television campaign to encourage increased consumption of those products. The council is also engaged in a wide range of other activities for the same purpose. These include the encouragement of better presentation and more ready availability of dairy products in hotels, restaurants, licensed premises and catering establishments generally; provision of display material for retail establishments; the holding of seminars for the retail trade; and the supply of educational aids to schools. My Department is providing increased funds for the council during the coming months to enable it to expand its promotional work.
