Vol. 239 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - PAYE.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange that the cumulative tax calculation in column 6 on weekly and monthly PAYE cards will be rounded off to the nearest shilling, thus making a useful simplification and lessening clerical work generally, as the annual difference to the Exchequer or the taxpayer would be sixpence or less in every case.

The rounding of deductions is being considered in connection with the design of tax deduction cards to be used when the changeover to decimal currency takes place in February, 1971, and I do not consider that it would be worthwhile to amend the instructions in the interim. I might point out that a ready reckoner is at present issued to all employers for calculating the tax.
