Vol. 239 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Coin-Boxes.

6.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what preparations are being made for altering telephone coin-boxes to decimal currency; and what coins it is proposed to use.

The provision of a new type of coin-box installation in automatic exchange areas which would enable users to dial trunk as well as local calls has been under consideration for some time. If it is not possible to introduce the new type of box in conjunction with the changeover to decimal currency existing automatic coin-boxes will be modified to take the new coinage. Existing coin-boxes in areas served by manual exchanges will also be modified. The decimal coins to be used in telephone coin-boxes have not yet been selected.
