Vol. 241 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána (Compensation) Act.

15.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider introducing legislation extending the scope of the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Act, 1941 to include provision for the payment of compensation where a member sustains injuries in the course of his duties without the necessity of establishing malice.

The matter to which the question refers comes within the scope of the commission which I appointed in September, 1968, to examine, report and make recommendations on the remuneration and conditions of service of the Garda Síochána. The commission is sitting at present and it would not be appropriate for me to make any statement.
