Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Schools.

97.

asked the Minister for Education what plans he has for the construction of national schools in the Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown area; if he is aware of the lack of national school facilities in the Rockford area; and if he will take immediate steps to build a national school there as a matter of urgency.

Proposals are at present being considered for the replacement of the following national schools in the Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown area:

Scoil Lorcáin, Baile na Manach.

Dominican Convent National School, Dún Laoghaire.

St. John of God Special School, Glenageary.

Killiney National School.

Stillorgan National School.

As regards schools to serve new housing areas, arrangements are already in train for the provision of new schools for boys and girls in the Cabinteely-Rochestown area, and my Department is investigating the need for new schools at Clonkeen Road, at Leopardstown and in the parish of Newtownpark Avenue. My Department has within the past few days received a request from Dublin County Council to consider the erection of a primary school at Rockford Park which, I understand, is in the Newtownpark Avenue parish and this will be taken into consideration when the result of the survey of school requirements in that parish is available.
