21.
asked the Minister for Health the average weekly cost of maintaining a person in hospital.
As the Deputy will appreciate, the cost of maintaining and treating a person in hospital varies considerably as between the various categories of hospital. For the groups of hospitals comprising county hospitals including regional general hospitals, district mental hospitals, and voluntary general teaching and non-teaching hospitals the average weekly cost in the latest year for which figures are available was £17.
22.
asked the Minister for Health the number of patients sent annually by each local health authority to hospitals in other areas.
The information is not readily available in the precise form requested. However, information is available for local authority hospitals in the year 1968 and for voluntary hospitals in the year 1967, which shows the number of patients who received in-patient treatment in hospitals (other than county homes or mental hospitals) in areas outside the area of their parent health authority.
As this information is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
