Vol. 241 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Anglers Conference.

25.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why he was not present or represented at the annual general meeting of the National Salmon Anglers Federation of Ireland which was held recently in Tralee; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the great importance of the federation to the relevant branch of the economy.

I informed the federation last August that I did not think it would be possible for me to be present at their annual general meeting but that I would be in touch with them later. On the 9th October my office confirmed to the federation that I would be unable to attend. My Parliamentary Secretary was then invited but unfortunately he had a prior commitment.

I am aware of the important role this federation plays in the furtherance of angling activities in this country but unfortunately I cannot get round to all the functions I should like to attend.
