Vol. 241 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Health Authority Committees.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the Dublin City Commissioner does not serve on any of the Dublin Health Authority visiting committees, thereby leaving the people of Dublin city without this representation of their interests on these committees.

I understand that the question of representation on visiting committees was discussed by the Dublin Health Authority on two occasions and that at the last meeting it was decided to appoint former members of the Dublin City Council to act on these committees. Former members who agreed to act were appointed accordingly.

Is the Minister aware that Mr. Garvin was invited by the members of the Dublin Health Authority to act in this capacity and is the Minister aware that he made the excuse that meetings of the visiting committees clashed with the Dublin Corporation meetings? Is he further aware that this is not so, that the Dublin Health Authority arranges its meetings so that they do not clash? Would the Minister not agree that Mr. Garvin in fact is not representing the people he purports to represent and that further work is falling on the existing councillors?

I would not agree.
