Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Island.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands is he is aware of recent reports that hippies intend to purchase an island off the Irish coast; and if he will refuse to sanction such sale.

I have seen reports of the kind referred to. I regard them as a form of idle speculation and do not put much faith in them. In any event I am having the Deputy's representations conveyed to the Land Commission for consideration in the event of an application for their consent under section 45, Land Act, 1965, being made by, or on behalf of, the persons mentioned. I should, perhaps, add that the determination of such applications is an excepted matter reserved to the lay commissioners.
