Vol. 242 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Pollution.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has any evidence that a cement silo is contributing to air pollution on the north side of Dublin; and, if so, what is its nature.

The answer is "No."

Could the Minister state the air pollution rate in Dublin?

That is a separate question.

It is not a separate question. If there is no increased incidence due to a cement silo then the figure available for the normal pollution is necessary and must be there to be referred to.

The question relates to the north side of Dublin, not to the entire city.

Has the Minister initiated any investigation to determine if there is any evidence or did he just say "No"?

I said the answer is "No".

Did the Minister initiate any investigation?

That is not what I was asked. I was asked if I had any evidence and I have not.

Is it the Minister's responsibility to measure air pollution in Dublin city?

The Minister for Health has said that it is, in reply to a previous question.

I have under consideration the introduction of regulations in regard to atmospheric pollution and I have asked for observations on these proposals before making the regulations.

Is the Minister aware that certain authorities state that the air pollution rate in Dublin is greater than in London? What steps will he take to try to measure the rate of air pollution in Dublin?

I intend to make regulations regarding atmospheric pollution.

Whose responsibility is it to measure air pollution?

Ceist eile.

The Minister for Health has said that it is the responsibility of the Minister for Local Government.
