Vol. 242 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will specify the housing, water and sewerage schemes received by his Department from the northern housing and sanitary authority of Cork County Council; and when sanction may be expected in respect of each scheme.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to say when sanction will be given for Ballyanehan, Derryvillane, County Cork, regional water scheme, which has been with his Department for a few years.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has finally decided not to sanction the tender submitted over three years ago for the carrying out of the Castleyons, Aghern, Conna regional water scheme, County Cork.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 31, 32 and 33 together, and as the reply includes a tabular statement I propose to have it circulated with the Official Report.

As regards the housing schemes shown on the statement, the proposals are under examination and decisions will be given on them as soon as possible.

Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services schemes of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I am not at present in a position to say when decisions on the public water and sewerage schemes listed in the statement will issue.

Following is the statement:

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of the Moygue, Liscarroll group water scheme, County Cork.

The cost of this scheme, as planned, would be prohibitively high. My Department are examining the financial problems involved to see if a practicable and more economic project can be prepared.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Farranfore group water supply scheme in County Kerry.

The design for this scheme, which was received last month, is acceptable in principle. A request for increased financial assistance to enable the scheme to be linked to the proposed mid-Kerry regional scheme is now being considered by my Department.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the plans submitted by Wicklow County Council for a water supply at Hollywood, County Wicklow.

I hope to be in a position to convey a decision on this scheme shortly.
