andMr. Enright asked the Taoiseach the cost of the materials imported into this country and used in the manufacture of margarine.
With your permission, Sir, I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together and to circulate with the Official Report a statement showing for the year 1968 the external trading position with the countries which are the principal sources of supply of the basic commodities from which materials for use in the manufacture of margarine are derived. These materials are also used for other purposes and it is not possible to determine directly from the external trade statistics the import cost relevant to margarine manufacture. On the basis of information available from industrial inquiries, however, it has been estimated that the import cost involved is about £0.8 million.
Balance of payments figures are not compiled for individual countries.
