Vol. 243 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Transport and Electricity Schemes.

68.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total numbers of old age pensioners in County Galway who have availed of (a) free transport and (b) free electricity since the scheme commenced.

Except in the case of travel by rail no record is kept of the number of pensioners who travel free. However, the Deputy may be interested to know that the total number of pensioners resident in County Galway who are eligible for free travel is about 11,500.

As regards the second part of the Deputy's question, statistics of the number of pensioners who have been awarded free electricity allowances are not available on a county basis.
