Vol. 243 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Estates.

68.

asked the Minister for Lands if in view of the grave local dissatisfaction caused by the distribution of portions of the Peet estate at Ballymacelligot, Tralee, he will take steps to ensure that the estate of Nagle, O'Brien and Turner in the same locality will be allocated to those applicants who are most entitled to and in need of land in the area.

The selection of allottees for land is a matter reserved to the commissioners. I do not accept the implication in the question that the Peet estate was divided in other than an equitable manner. The Deputy should be aware that in the nature of land settlement it is virtually impossible to formulate a scheme of division for any particular estate which will win all round acceptance. Plans are at present being drafted for the Nagle, O'Brien and Turner estates referred to and I am confident that the competing claims of all applicants will be thoroughly assessed before the lands are allotted.
