Vol. 243 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closure of Louth School.

94.

asked the Minister for Education if it was conceded by an official of his Department that the closing of Bellurgan national school, County Louth, is being considered; if an official of his Department indicated that all the children attending Bellurgan school would be sent to Ravensdale school, at a meeting held in Bellurgan school; and if he will arrange, as a more practical course, to send some children to Rampark in order to establish two four-teacher schools, one at Rampark and one at Ravensdale.

As the Deputy was informed in reply to a question on the 23rd October, the amalgamation of Bellurgan national school with another national school in the same parish is under consideration. At a recent meeting of parents the advantages of amalgamation were explained by my Department's inspector and various amalgamation schemes were discussed, including the one mentioned by the Deputy. It is intended to convene another meeting of parents early in the new year when the matter will be further considered.
