Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - Wexford Telephone Service.

99.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he proposes to provide automatic telephone service to Wexford town and district and to Gorey town and North Wexford.

It is planned to provide automatic telephone service in Wexford town, Gorey, Barntown and Castlebridge in mid-1970 and at Rosslare later in the year. The conversion of the following exchanges to automatic working is expected to be effected late in 1970 or in 1971: Ballycarney, Blackwater, Boolavogue, Broadway, Bun clody, Camolin, Campile, Clonegal, Courtown Harbour, Duncannon, Ferns. Fethard-on-Sea, Killurin, Kilmore Quay, Kilmuckridge, Monamolin, Rosslare Harbour and Slade.

(Interruptions.)

Mr. Browne

I resent the suggestion that it was a planted question. I did not see the Minister for the last two months. It is only a Labour Deputy who would think of a thing like that.

Only the Deputy would think of putting down a question like that.

All I know is that I have been under constant pressure from Deputy Seán Browne and Deputy Allen in connection with the improvement of this service.

It is time you did some thing about it.

Both Deputies Corish and Esmonde have been complaining about the service and it was arising from all those pressures that my predecessor, the Tánaiste, made elaborate plans for this extension which I am now in a position to announce.
