Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Paul McGrath

Question:

243 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the procedures that should be followed by a parent who suspects their child suffers from dyslexia in order to have their child assessed; if there is a long waiting time for such assessment; and if he will arrange that a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath is assessed as soon as possible. [18838/00]

Pending the expansion of the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS, a working group of representatives from NEPS and the Department of Health and Children has been established to put procedures in place to deal with urgent referrals for psychological assessment. In the case referred to by the Deputy, an application should be made to the Midland Health Board for the psychological service required.
