Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Airfield.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the proposal to develop Oranmore Airfield, County Galway; and when it is hoped work will begin on it.

I decided in June, 1968, to give a grant from the special regional development fund to assist in the development of Oranmore Airfield as a result of a proposal made to me by the central development committee, based on a recommendation received from the Galway county development team.

I understand that negotiations between Galway Corporation and the Department of Defence with regard to the leasing of lands at Oranmore which are required for development of the airfield are now in the final stages. It will then be a matter for the airport promoters to sublease from Galway Corporation, in order to commence the development. In the circumstances, I am not in a position to say when work will begin.
