Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Car Duties.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum received into State funds from all forms of levy, import duty, and taxation, indirect or otherwise, on a motor car, the sale price of which is eventually £1,000.

The total amount of tax payable on an Irish assembled car, the sale price of which is eventually £1,000, can vary considerably depending on such factors as the make or model of the car, the terms given to the particular dealer involved and the value of the aggregate of parts from which it is assembled. On average the total payable would be in the range £190 to £225, which includes customs and excise duties and turnover and wholesale taxes.
